Just joined a gym? Five simple rules to help beginners progress safely: warm-up, technique, consistency, rest and nutrition.

You've taken your first step into the gym — so what now? Here are the basic rules you need to know to make progress without getting injured or losing motivation.

Starting to exercise is exciting, but the mistakes people make in the first few weeks both lower motivation and increase the risk of injury. Here are five basic rules for beginners.

1. Never skip the warm-up

Before you start training, do 5–10 minutes of light cardio and mobility exercises. Your muscles and joints should be ready for the load.

2. Learn technique before adding weight

Correct form matters far more than how much you lift. Train with light weights in the first few weeks and ask our trainers for support.

3. Be consistent

Training three days a week regularly is far more effective than one hard session a month.

4. Make time for rest

Muscles grow while you rest, not while you train. Give each muscle group at least 48 hours of rest.

5. Don't neglect your nutrition

  • Get enough protein
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Cut down on processed food

You can always ask our team at the gym any questions you have. At Royal you're never alone!
